This it what happens when there is a large airport not far away. Especially if there is a road passing just next to the runway

A 1,000 years long gig!

Ju偶 od siedemnastu lat gra sobie jab艂uszko na tybeta艅skich “艣piewaj膮cych p贸艂miskach” i ani mu przez my艣l nie przesz艂o przesta膰 (bo nie my艣li?). Pono膰 melodia nigdy si臋 nie powt贸rzy w ci膮gu ca艂ego tysi膮clecia.

Well, maybe a “gig” is a bit of an exaggeration, however a thousand years is not! Arranged by humans but performed by machine. The computer has been playing them Tibetan “singing bowls” continuously for seventeen years now and it does not think of stopping (because it does not think?). Apparently the melody will not repeat itself throughout the millennium. You can enjoy it in an East London lighthouse, with a nice view over the river. For more information check out “longplayer”.

Under the Bridge

Ahh, cisza i spok贸j. Ma艂e, przyjemne miasteczko w Exmoor, a w nim ten 艣redniowieczny, kamienny most. Fajny klimacik, mo偶na si臋 odpr臋偶y膰. I jeszcze woda by艂a na tyle uprzejma, 偶e pozwoli艂a mi si臋 poszw臋da膰 pod spodem 馃檪

So peaceful and quiet. A small, pleasant town in Exmoor, and its medieval stone bridge. Very relaxing. Especially since the water was kind enough to allow me to wander underneath.

Barbican

Przyjemnie czasami sobie zaduma膰, jakie ludzie z przesz艂o艣ci mieli spojrzenie na przysz艂o艣膰.

W ka偶dym razie dobrze, 偶e nie ma ich zbyt wiele, bo sta艂yby si臋 zwyk艂膮, nudn膮 codzienno艣ci膮…

Sometimes it is nice to have a look at how future was supposed to look according to people from the past. A very interesting concept is the Barbican in London, completed in the 70-ties. While walking between the buildings you might feel like in an old science fiction movie, “Brazil” being my favourite association.

It is a very specific complex, I am not aware of any other projects like that came to realisation in such a scale – any other examples, anyone? Still, it is good they were not many as they would have become just a part of boring, daily routine…

Molino de la Albolafia

Kolejne przypadkowe znalezisko. Stary m艂yn wyczajony z mostu w Cordobie. Dopiero p贸藕niej si臋 dowiedzieli艣my, 偶e zbudowano go w 艣redniowieczu i 偶e w og贸le si臋 nazywa jako艣… No i 偶e prowadzi do niego 艣cie偶ka, co by m贸g艂 si臋 cz艂owiek z bliska odrobin臋 przyjrze膰 馃檪

Another accidental discovery. We saw it when passing a roman bridge in Cordoba. Well, we could see straight away it was an old watermill, but only later we found out that it has a name and was built in medieval times. Also, that there is a path leading to for us to have a closer look 馃槈

Abandoned observatory

Hmm, w sumie to nie do ko艅ca. Mia艂o by膰 “abandont”. Tymczasem okaza艂o si臋 na miejscu, 偶e zosta艂o “odabandontni臋te”.

No c贸偶, sp贸藕nilismy si臋 na stary Caminito Del Rey, nie zd膮偶yli艣my te偶 na obserwatorium. Przynajmniej byli艣my konsekwentni 馃檪

Actually it is not exactly like that. It was supposed to be abandoned, meanwhile it got unabandoned at some point.

This observatory was built around 1902 in Sierra Nevada range, deserted in 70’s and then adapted again for the needs of University of Granada somehow recently (I saw a post from 2012 when it was in a beautifully abandoned state). Well, we were both late for Caminito Del Rey聽and also missed the observatory. At least we were consequent 馃檪

Nevertheless, whoever shall be in that area (that usually being Granada) I highly recommend to go and have a walk around. These are still beautiful mountains and the observatory certainly adds charm.

Caminito Del Rey

Ju偶 艂adnych par臋 lat si臋 czai艂em na ten spacerek. W ko艅cu uda艂o si臋 zebra膰, kumpla zgarn膮膰 i wio. Wspomnia艂em “stary” szlak, bo w mi臋dzyczasie zbudowali nowy. 艁adny, bezpieczny, p艂atny – s艂owem, skomercjonalizowany. Og贸lnie rzecz bior膮c to fajnie – niech sobie zarobi膮, niech wi臋cej ludzi to cudo zobaczy. Ale, kurde, chcia艂em si臋 przej艣膰 oryginalnym szlakiem!

W ka偶dym razie, i tak super miejsce. Widoczki nieziemskie, co rusz wida膰 resztki starego szlaku. Klimacik jest. Polecam!

I was travelling there in my thoughts for a few years now. I saw online some crazy chap doing the whole old path without a rope and dream about the place ever since. Finally I got a chance, grabbed a friend and we went. I mentioned “old” path because in the meantime they’ve built a new one. Pretty, secure, paid – commercialised in one word. In general it is good – they will make some money, more people will get to see this brilliant spot. But, damn it, I wanted to walk聽the original聽one!

Nevertheless, it is amazing anyway.聽Unearthly views, you can see parts of old path every few meters. It does the trick – highly recommended!
