Oto on, kolejny karnawał we Viareggio. Z czasem wpisał się on na stałe w mój rozkład jazdy, z czego jestem bardzo rad. Walka jest zacięta, powozy są świetne a kostiumy przepiękne. Zacznijmy od kilku powozów!
Behold, another Viareggio Carnival. By now it has become a regular event for me, which fills me with joy. The competition is fierce, there is a lot of great floats and amazing costumes which merit more than just one post. Let’s start with a few of the floats!
Oasi Lipu
Na zewnÄ…trz jeszcze ciemno i nie ma żadnego ruchu, nawet najbardziej znajome miejsca wydajÄ… siÄ™ być jakieÅ› inne. Po krótkiej przejażdżce pustÄ… drogÄ… wzdÅ‚uż wzgórza docieramy do jeziora i wsiadamy na naszÄ… łódkÄ™. Podróż przez wodÄ™ i mgÅ‚Ä™ przenosi nas w Å›wiat natury i daleko w przeszÅ‚ość – do momentu, kiedy to jezioro byÅ‚o jeszcze na tyle czyste, że ryby można byÅ‚o spokojnie Å‚owić. Stare chaty rybackie zawieszone nad wodÄ… sÄ… teraz idealnym miejscem do obserwacji ptaków i fascynujÄ…cym obiektem do fotografowania. MoglibyÅ›my wiele gadać, ale od tego mamy przewodnika. Starożytne ptaki, zabójcze krewetki, lokalna historia i ekstrawagancka willa wyÅ‚aniajÄ…ca siÄ™ z mgÅ‚y w oddali.
Wszyscy na pokład!
Outside it’s still dark and everything is still, even the most familiar of places feel somewhat foreign. After a short drive along an uncharacteristically empty hillside road we get to the lake and board our vessel. A journey through water and fog takes us deep in the nature and way back in time, to a moment in history when this lake was unpolluted enough to make fishing very popular. The old fishing huts suspended over the water now make the perfect spot for bird watching and a fascinating subject to photograph. There’s a lot we could say but we have a wildlife guide for that. Ancient birds, killer shrimps, local history and an extravagant villa emerging from the mist in the distance.

Carnevale 2023 People
Wiele twarzy karnawału we Viareggio. Setki amatorskich artystów, bez których powóz, na którym się znajdują, pozbawiony byłby duszy. Ćwiczą miesiącami pod okiem profesjonalnych choreografów. Kostiumy są szyte pod każdego uczestnika, a następnie stają się jego własnością, co by mógł cieszyć się nimi na przyszłych imprezach karnawałowych.
The many faces of Viareggio Carnival. Hundreds of amateur performers who become the life of the construction they are on, rehearsing for months under the keen eye of a proffesional choreografer. The costumes are made specifically for each participant and then they remain with the dancer to be enjoyed more casually on future carnival parties.
Carnevale 2023 Carri
Karnawał we Viareggio powoli staje się stałym punktem moich fotograficznych przygód. Kilka lat temu mógłbym pomyśleć, że z czasem zacznie się on nudzić. W końcu powozy co roku są robione w podobny sposób i czuję się, hmm, powiedzmy mniej zszokowany. Z drugiej strony jednak, kilka edycji praktyki pozwala dostrzec więcej drobnostek. Jak się poruszają, jak kostiumy pasują do ogólnej koncepcji, jak różne rozwiązania oświetleniowe wpływają na wygląd powozu po ciemku. Nie jestem na poziomie bardzo bliskiej mi osoby, która zna na pamięć nazwiska i najlepsze dzieła większości konstruktorów, ale przynajmniej czuję się o krok bliżej do odkrycia tajemnicy Karnawału we Viareggio.
The Viareggio Carnival has slowly become a regular fixture on my photographic agenda. Few years back one might have thought it would get a bit boring over time. In the end the floats are done in a similar way every year and you find yourself, hmm, let’s just say less shocked. On the other hand though, a few editions of practice give you a touch more insight into the details. How they move, how the costumes fit the idea of the float, different lighting solutions the creators use and how it affects the float in the evening. I am not at a level of a person very close to me who knows by heart the surnames and best operas of most constructors but at least I feel one step closer to unearthing the secret of Viareggio Carnival.
Freedom
Zdają się mieć fajne życie. Krążą sobie zwyczajnie po okolicy, a jest gdzie się szwędać, szczególnie jeśli jest to jakaś stara mieścinka w górach pozbawiona ruchu i innych zagrożeń. Zawsze coś dostaną do jedzenia (zazwyczaj od człowieka, który uważa się za ich właściciela). Mimo bycia karmionym z łatwością znajdują sobie jakąś ofiarę, jeśli mają ochotę na smakołyk lub po prostu trochę zabawy. Bez problemu przyciągają uwagę niczego nie podejrzewającego przechodnia jak ich najdzie ochota na pieszczoty. Mają bardzo, ale to bardzo, bogate życie w internecie nawet nie zdając sobie sprawy z tegoż internetu istnienia. Przenikają do milionów (o ile nie miliardów) postów na Instagramie i innych platformach, włącznie z tym blogiem. Ponadto, i co w tym wszystkim najpiękniejsze, chuj ich to wszystko obchodzi. Cóż za żywot.
They seem to have a nice life. They just roam around with lots of space to do so, especially if it is an old village in the hills without traffic or other dangers. They always get food (usually from a person who regards themself as their owner). Despite being fed by a human they easily find a prey should they wish to enjoy a treat or simply have some guilty fun. They effortlessly attract attention of an unsuspecting passer-by whenever a need for a cuddle arises. They also have a very, but very rich online life despite not even being aware of internet’s existence. They find their way to milions (if not bilions) Instagram posts and other platforms, this blog included. But most beautifully of all, about all these things, they just simply do not give a fuck. What a life.

DosÅ‚owne tumaczenie – “dziurawa góra”. Fajnie mieszkać blisko gór i jednoczeÅ›nie nad morzem, widoczki przy zacnej pogodzie sÄ… zniewalajÄ…ce. Na jednym ze zdjęć widać KorsykÄ™ i jej najwyższe szczyty, oddalone od 200 do 220 km od Monte Forato. Powieść kumpla z roboty – jeden koleÅ› wjechaÅ‚ samochodem gdzieÅ› wysoko na Korsyce, drugi w Alpach ApuaÅ„skich. Ustawili je odpowiednio i rozmawiali ze sobÄ… morsem za pomocÄ… Å›wiateÅ‚ drogowych. Cóż za widoczność!
Direct translation, mountain with a hole. It is nice to live by the sea and close to the mountains. The views on a clear day are flabbergasting. On one of the pictures you can see Corsica and its highest peaks, between 200 and 220 km from Monte Forato. A story from a pal at work – one lad took his car somewhere up in Corsica, another guy in the Apuan Alps. They parked them just right and could actually have a conversation in morse language using the high beams. What a visibily!

Dzisiaj studenckie miasto w zachodniej Toskanii, niedaleko morza. Jest to miejscowość z bogatÄ… historiÄ…, jak to we WÅ‚oszech bywa. W wielkim uogólnieniu – zaÅ‚ożone przez Etrusków, podbite przez Rzymian, w okolicach X, XI wieku potÄ™ga morska i handlowa, na jakiÅ› czas podbita przez GenueÅ„czyków, po czym przez FlorencjÄ™. I to wszystko na dÅ‚ugo przed powstaniem dzisiejszych WÅ‚och. Ma nienajgorzej zachowanÄ… starówkÄ™, mimo ciężkiego alianckiego bombardowania podczas drugiej Wojny Åšwiatowej. Bez uszczerbku przeczmychnÄ…Å‚ siÄ™ przez wojnÄ™ Plac Cudów, na którym to stoi pewna caÅ‚kiem znana w Å›wiecie wieża. Warto na niÄ… rzucić okiem, ale potem koniecznie należy siÄ™ poszwÄ™dać po ciasnych uliczkach 🙂
Today a university city in western Tuscany, not far from the sea. It is a settlement with rich history, as it usually goes in Italy. Generally speaking – founded by the Etruscans, then counqered by the Romans, at around X, XI century a mighty seafarer and trader, for a while conquered by the Genoese and then by Florence. And all that long before the creation of Italy as we know it today. It has a fairly well kept old town, despite heavy allied bombardment during the Second World War. The Square of Miracles managed to sneak through it without a scratch, with its quite famous tower. It is worth giving it a glimpse but then it is a must to go and wonder around the narrow streets of old town 🙂
